CAESL Assessment Education Tool
Kit
Welcome to the CAESL Assessment Education Tool Kit!
This handy “Tool Kit” is a web-based
downloadable array of educational “tools” to
help educators engage parents, community organizations, and
the general public in learning about issues related to
assessment, testing, and accountability.
Included as tools are:
• Interactive presentations that require as little as
15 minutes that could be presented to a large audience at a
community meeting.
• In-depth activities and discussion prompts for
parents who are interested in learning more, many of them
with overhead transparencies and participant handouts.
• PowerPoint presentations that can provide a basic
outline for presenters to expand in their own directions.
• Concise informational handouts and short articles or
“briefs” on a variety of assessment-related
topics that can be given to participants or sent home by
schools or teachers.
In addition, there are suggestions for ways to combine some
of the tools to create three sessions, on the topics of
Classroom Assessment, Standards for Learning, and
Standardized Testing. These sessions can each be used as
stand-alone presentations, or combined to make a
three-session series. This Assessment Education Tool Kit is
designed to be flexible, allowing you to use any
combination of what we provide and other resources to
design your own programs dependent upon audience, purpose,
length of time available, or other factors. While we give
suggestions for possible ways to combine tools, there are
many other ways they can be used together, or with other
tools that you’ve developed on your own.
